Old Campbeltown and Machrihanish

A photographic record of what Campbeltown and Machrihanish in Kintyre, Argyll, looked like in the early 1900s. Around 50 old photographs, each with accompanying text and introductory preface, gives a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Images include the Campbeltown Main Street with its cross in the middle of the road, Longrow and other street scenes, the harbour with fishing boats and herring gutters, the old mail stagecoach, and the small gauge Campbeltown to Machrihanish railway.

There are also photographs of the Atlantic shore at Machrihanish, the wireless telegraph station which communicated between America and Europe, the lifeboat station and the classic 18-hole golf course.
